Berlut Books was founded by Beryl Lutrin in 1999 in order to publish the Afrikaans Handbook and Study Guide. It has subsequently published the English Handbook and Study Guide and the Maths Handbook and Study Guides for Grades 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 as well as the Accounting Handbook and Study Guide for Grades 8 to 12. Berlut Books is also very proud to have added to its range the IsiZulu Handbook and Study Guide for Senior Primary and High School.
The English and Afrikaans books are best-sellers and are used by most of the top schools in South Africa and the neighboring states. The Maths Books are highly regarded and are being used by many top schools as text books as well as for additional material and reinforcement. Their appeal is that they explain Maths simply and clearly.
The Accounting Handbook and Study Guide covers the Accounting syllabus from Grades 8 to 12 and complements the textbooks in these grades. It is also useful for pre-university students who have not studied Accounting at school. The IsiZulu Handbook and Study Guide aims to simplify IsiZulu and make it accessible and enjoyable for all who want learn the language.
Beryl Lutrin is an ex-teacher with a special interest in remedial education. She wrote the Afrikaans Handbook and Study Guide in 1999 from her awareness of the need for such a book. Based on the success of this book, in 2002 she wrote the English Handbook and Study Guide with Marcelle Pincus, a legendary figure in English and Speech and Drama circles. When Kevin Smith, a young Engineer who is passionate about Maths and Science, approached her with his Maths Book, she knew that this was the core of the Maths Handbook and Study Guides. The Accounting Handbook and Study Guide is written by Simeon Mantel from Tutors24. Simeon is highly qualified and excels in simplifying concepts and material. Tutors24 also hired top isiZulu Teachers to write and proofread the isiZulu Handbook and Study Guide.
